First edition of this beautiful pictorial history of the official residence and workplace of the president of the United States. Octavo, bound in full pebbled dark green morocco, gilt titles to the spine, gilt ruling to the front and rear panels, patterned endpapers, all edges gilt, illustrated with numerous full page color photographs. One of 100 copies. Inscribed by Lady Bird Johnson on the limitation page, “January 31, 1970 For Sarah and Lawrence Clay Maliek with the warm good wishes for all your days ahead Lady Bird” and signed by Lyndon B. Johnson, “Lyndon B. Johnson.” In near fine condition with light rubbing to the extremities. Rare and desirable signed by both Lyndon and Lady Bird Johnson.
Lyndon Baines Johnson, often referred to by his initials LBJ, served as the 36th President of the United States from 1963 to 1969, assuming the office after serving as the 37th Vice President of the United States under President John F. Kennedy from 1961 to 1963. A Democrat from Texas, Johnson also served as a U.S. representative, U.S. senator and the Senate's majority leader. He holds the distinction of being one of the few presidents who served in all elected offices at the federal level.
