John Farley designed his 'London Art of Cookery' to be "plain and easy to the understanding of every housekeeper, cook, and servant in the kingdom" so that anyone could follow along with his recipes and instructions in baking, broiling, and frying, pickling, potting, and preserving, making wines and other liquors, and performing the art of confectionary.
