The Story of the Trapp Family Singers.
The Story of the Trapp Family Singers.
MARIA AUGUSTA TRAPP [MARIA VON TRAPP],.
Item Number: 1680
Philadelphia: J.P. Lippincott, 1949.
First edition of the story of the Trapp family singers. Octavo. Near fine in a very good dust jacket. Signed by the author. Basis for the classic musical and later film, “The Sound of Music” starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. Rare, especially signed.
In her own, beautiful, simple words, the Baroness Maria Augusta Trapp tells the dramatic story that inspired the classic American musical The Sound of Music. Both provide an easy feel and description of the family's experiences in pre-war Austria. Nonetheless, the two should not be conflated. "The Sound of Music" concludes with a scene of the family as they hike over the mountain to freedom, but "The Story of the Trapp Family Singers" carries on the family's life after they leave Austria. It tells of the concerns the family performs through Europe to support themselves as well as their efforts to leave to the United States to avoid the war.
