Born in 1520 on the Cotentin peninsula in Normandy, Dr. Julien le Paulmier was summoned to the Court of the King while working as a professor at the University of Paris to care for King Charles IX and Prince Henri III. In 1585, as a reward for his work he was enobled lands on the western border of the Pays d’Auge where he later devoted his life to pomology and published the first treatise on cider, De Vino et Pomaceo, later translated as Traite Du Vin Et Du Sidre.
