Framed title page of ‘Quatrevingt-Treize (Ninety-Three),’ inscribed by Victor Hugo. Title page of Hugo’s ‘Quatrevingt-Treize’ inscribed by Victor Hugo, “M. Louis Leroy Victor Hugo.” Double matted and framed with a black and white photograph of Victor Hugo. In near fine condition with a crease to the lower portion of the title page and some toning. The entire piece measures 16.25 inches by 11.25 inches.
Victor Hugo, widely known for his major novels such as the 'Hunchback of Notre Dame' and 'Les Miserables,' was tremendously popular and influential in the nineteenth-century French literary, artistic, and political scene. His final novel 'Quatrevingt-Treize,' or 'Ninety-Three' was published in three non-chronological volumes and concerns the counter-revolutionary uprisings in 1793 during the French Revolution.
