First edition of Guthrie’s collection of short comedic plays which originally appeared in Punch magazine. Octavo, two volumes bound in three quarters vellum by Morrell with morocco spine labels lettered in gilt, top edges gilt, marbled endpapers, with twenty illustrations to volume I and twenty-five to volume II by Partridge including frontispieces. In near fine condition. Armorial bookplates to the pastedowns.

English author Thomas Anstey Guthrie became an important member of the staff of Punch magazine in the late 1800s, in which his Voces Populi and other humorous parodies represented his best work. Voces Populi contains such short comedic plays as A Pastoral Play, Trafalgar Square, Doing Edinburgh Castle, and The Musical Prodigy. Accompanied by Voces Populi Second Series which contains The Riding-Class, Bank Holiday, and On The Ice among others.
