First edition of the civil rights hero’s story of a group of conscientious objectors who were imprisoned for their beliefs during World War II. Octavo, original half cloth, top edge red. Signed by Jim Peck on the title page. Near fine in a near fine dust jacket.
American activist James Peck was an advocate of nonviolent resistance during World War II and the American Civil Rights Movement. Peck advocated nonviolent civil disobedience throughout his life, was arrested more than 60 times between the 1930s and 1980s and has been called a white civil rights hero. We Who Would Not Kill is the story of a group of men whose pacifism was so consistent that they refused not only to kill but also to do any work which would contribute toward the war. Using Gandhi-like methods of passive resistance, they carried out a constant campaign in defense of their principles.
