The New York Yankees were virtually unmatched throughout the 1950's and 60's and owed much of their success to two players: Mickey Charles Mantle and Edward Charles "Whitey" Ford. Both players joined the team in 1950 in the height of their predecessor Joe Dimaggio's career. They went on to play for 18 summers, ultimately winning 11 World Series with 536 home suns by Mantle and 236 victories for Ford. The two swiftly became folk heroes of Yankee legend and notorious for their free-wheeling escapades off the field.
