American landscape photographer and environmentalist Ansel Adams known for his black and white photographs of the American West. He and Fred Archer developed a system of image-making called the Zone System, demonstrating the impact that exposure, negative development, and printing have on the tonal range of an image. 'Yosemite and the Range of Light' is possibly the most important book of Adams' career. After taking his first pictures of Yosemite Valley at the age of fourteen, his return marks a full circle of personal history. Not only does Adams capture the majesty of the environment in these photos, but he also manages to track the course of his life, connected since the beginning with the glorious sight of rock, meadow, forest, and stream.
