Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "To Edward Gilbert Best Wishes Always, Edgar Rice Burroughs. The recipient, Edward Gilbert was the brother of Burroughs' second wife and silent film actress Florence Gilbert. Near fine in the rare original dust jacket which is in very good condition with some chipping and loss to the crown and foot of the spine. Rare and desirable signed by Burroughs.

First edition of this early work by Travers and Rice, "one of the first golf books to carry Mr. Rice's name" (Murdoch 784). Octavo, original cloth, illustrated. From the library of Albert W. Tillinghast, with his handwritten inventory card laid in. Tillinghast was a golf course architect and one of the most prolific architects in the history of golf; he worked on more than 265 different courses. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2015. A nice example with noted provenance.

Of the 2,951 copies printed, 125 were review copies. About 1,500 sold in 11 days, but then sales slowed to less than 300 the next year.
